Understand Menopause and Transform Your Life.

Menopause in women refers to the period starting from the decline in female hormones due to the aging of the ovaries, and continuing until about one year after the complete cessation of menstruation.
Typically, women experience this phase between their mid-to-late 40s and early 50s, during which they encounter a variety of physical and emotional symptoms.

In the past, menopause was often regarded as a natural occurrence of aging, and many women chose to endure it without treatment.
However, with longer life expectancies, modern women may spend one-third or even more of their lives in menopause.
As a result, managing menopausal symptoms has become a critical factor in maintaining a high quality of life.

Menopause : Not a Difficult Phase, but a Time for Renewal

Hormonal Changes After Age 35,
How are you preparing?

After age 35, a woman’s ovaries gradually begin to decrease in size and weight.
Along with this, the number of eggs and follicles also declines, leading eventually to a deficiency in female hormones.
The sudden changes often associated with menopause are primarily due to a lack of early management of these hormonal deficiencies.
Preparing for a healthy transition into menopause is something that should begin sooner than most people realize.

Menopause is no longer just an unavoidable sign of aging; it’s a life phase we can proactively prepare for and embrace.

FAQ

Here are the most frequently asked questions about menopause clinic.

Typically, menopause begins with changes in the menstrual cycle, fluctuations in menstrual flow, and vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes, flushing, and increased sweating. After menopause, symptoms such as vaginal dryness, skin thinning, itching, cystitis and incontinence may gradually appear due to atrophy.
Some people have no symptoms, and some experience only mild symptoms. However, if symptoms are severe, it’s not just a matter of discomfort. More serious conditions like osteoporosis can also worsen, so it’s advisable not to endure but to seek treatment. Additionally, bothersome symptoms often last longer than expected, making them hard to simply endure. Academically, the traditionally classified perimenopausal period is up to one year after menopause. Menopausal symptoms were previously thought to last for about 6 months to 2 years. However, recent studies report that menopausal symptoms can actually last much longer. In the observational SWAN study, about 50% of women experienced vasomotor symptoms for around 7 years, And these symptoms continued for 4-5 years even after menopause. Another study that examined the prevalence of menopausal symptoms found that 50% of women over 55 years old had menopausal symptoms. And 15% of women aged 55-59 and 6% of women in their 60s suffered from moderate to severe menopausal symptoms. Therefore, it is important not to simply endure but to receive appropriate treatment for a better quality of life moving forward.
While female menopause involves sudden hormonal changes like menopause, In men, testosterone levels gradually decrease, making it harder to notice. Hair loss, reduced body fat, and muscle mass loss are the most noticeable symptoms. This leads to increased fatigue and reduced energy levels. Symptoms such as irritability, depression, memory loss, reduced concentration, fatigue, insomnia, sweating, and decreased libido are similar to those of female menopause. However, the decrease in testosterone also increases the risk of metabolic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Therefore, lifestyle improvements and proactive treatment are necessary for managing male menopause.
For urgent severe symptoms, such as hot flushes(blushing), cold sweats, irritability, and depression– early symptoms of menopause that lower the quality of daily life – Korean Medicine is prescribed for about 4 to 10 weeks. Additionally, for gradually developing conditions like genitourinary syndrome of menopause, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, or skin aging, long-term and periodic medication may be necessary. When the progression of menopause is rapid, symptoms can become more severe, making it an effective treatment to slow down the disease’s progression through Korean Medicine. Since menopause is an inevitable part of life’s journey, Korean medicine for menopause plays a crucial role in helping you navigate this stage smoothly, ensuring a safe and gentle transition.
A delayed onset of menopause is not a cause for concern or a specific illness. In some ways, it can even be seen as a sign of slowed aging. However, prolonged exposure to estrogen can increase the risk of conditions such as endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and endometrial hyperplasia. Therefore, regular check-ups and periodic monitoring through exams are recommended.
